You just want to feel normal…

And normal feels so far away.
You’re feeling like you’re stuck wanting to do more but scared anything will flare you up
You’re afraid of movement and feel stiff and achy (perhaps despite being hypermobile)
You feel drained and like pain dictates your days or how much you can cope with
Sleep isn’t restful or restorative for you, you wake with brain fog and low energy
You’re wondering whether you can do another school run/bedtime/dinner-that-no-one-eats
I’ve been there too. And it can be super hard dragging yourself out of this space where life feels like work-chores-parenting-sleep-repeat.
Look, I can’t promise a magic quick fix – I wish I could but the reality is, with chronic pain and illness, things take time. You’ll have good days and bad days along the way, and sometimes it might feel like you’re making no progress. A lot of the time, with chronic illness, there is no “getting better” – this is our lives.
What I can promise is dedication to helping you relieve any muscular and fascial tension, overcome fear of movement and support you to get to a point where you’ve got more energy and less pain. I do strongly believe that we can have more good days than bad, we can learn how to support ourselves so we can do the stuff we want without spending the next two days in bed and we can live happy, fulfilled lives.
I work over a series of sessions, starting with a minimum of 6, or 10, depending on your condition and goals. The first few are close together, maximum 2 weeks apart. We’ll work together, so we can get you to the point where you feel balanced, more energetic and your pain is decreasing – before spreading the treatments out. At the end of the block, we can discuss whether keeping a regularly monthly or quarterly maintenance treatment feels right for you.
I’ll do an in-depth consultation with you so I can learn about what’s causing your pain. We’ll do some range of motion testing to check any theories I have about where the pain is coming from and I’ll share any insights I have about exercises, self care or rehab type work which can support you. We’ll also set some benchmarks to work towards, so we can check that I’m helping you make progress and real change – these could be as simple as “able to walk to the shops and back without pain”.
In the massage I’ll use the skills and tools which I think will best support your body in that moment:
If you’re in a flare we’ll pair everything right back, we’ll do light holds, traction and stillness to allow your nervous system to reset.
If you’re feeling good, we’ll work with the fascia, heat and trigger points to ease out any stuck areas and get your body moving more fluidly.
I’ve seen it happen with the people I treat.
After 3 to 4 sessions people are feeling:
Lighter, with reduced pain levels and more fluid movement
Like movement isn’t scary, it’s achievable and beneficial
Like sleep actually restores them and they wake up feeling refreshed
And like they’ve got the energy to parent the way they want to around those tricky transition moments
And it’s not just me, there’s research out there which shows that regular massage has a real benefit for people with chronic pain conditions.

“Had a hot stone massage from Jen as a birthday treat, and my word! What a treat it was! Jen was fantastic, the massage was incredibly thorough and relaxing, and I left feeling like a new woman! I couldn’t recommend more highly. Thank you!”

“I had a full consultation and treatment with Jen in regards to my knee issues. The end result of the treatment meant that I could move my knee far more than I have for a long time and created space and release, which was a relief. Jen is attentive and mindful and I felt she truly listened to my issues with compassion and empathy. I would highly recommend going for pain relief but also to feel held and supported.”

“Really lovely targeted massage releasing my tight shoulders. Jen took the time to understand my main problem and I could feel a real difference even mid way through”

“I contacted Jen towards the end of my pregnancy to organise a treatment with her as I was suffering with back and shoulder pain.
Jen was quick to respond and got me booked in with her the following week.
I received the warmest welcome when I arrived for my treatment and felt instantly relaxed and at ease with her calming and approachable nature.
The treatment itself was wonderful! Jen listened to the issues I had and made sure she focused on the areas of my body that I was struggling with pain in. The massage space was peaceful and relaxing and the whole experience was amazing! I will definitely be returning to Jen for a post natal treatment!”
